 ADAM'S PUMPERNICKEL COMPANY
Adam's Pumpernickel Company (Wytwórnia Pumperniklu Adama) was established 77 years
ago on the initiatiative of the Wielkopolska region's baker Józef Adam, who developed his
own unique recipe for producing pumpernickel from especially prepared rye flour. The
original product appreciated for its health value (important minerals and blood building
ingredients) has been manufactured by the company ever since. The pumpernickel formula is
a closely guarded secret. Being the oldest such firm in Poland, Adam's bakery resists
largescale industrialization and adheres to the traditional bread-making processes.
Its present owners take care of upgrading products to the extent that would not detract from
their nutritious qualities. The process avoids using any preservatives and the bread baking is
based on cut rye, rye flour, rye flakes and leaven.
To improve their life, tastes and fragrances, the finished products are pasteurized.
Transparent packagings are a new marketing angle.
The bread products of the company have won many prizes in exhibitions across Poland. The
ADAMA (ADAM'S) Delicatessen Pumpernickel in 1999 won the Gold Medal of the Poznań
International Fair at POLAGRA '99 edition.
ADAM'S Delicatessen Pumpernickel accounts for 60% of the total output, the other
products being Sunflower Bread, Raisin Pumpernickel, Full-Meal Bread, Round Delicatessen
Pumpernickel and Round Sunflower Bread.
The Company is planning to launch Delikatessen Pumpernickel and Full-meal Bread in 100
gram packets for airlines and restaurants.
